As the dog days of summer come upon us, everyone in the panhandle area starts looking for ways to avoid the heat. Air conditioners run on overload, the pools and beaches are crowded, and ice cream parlors are filled with people trying to chill out from the inside! But the coolest of visitors and residents know the best way to avoid the heat in August is by participating in the Emerald Coast Boat Week and Poker Run! Held August 7th through 10th, Boat Week, also known as the Big One, has been one of the largest reasons for visiting in August, and the proceeds go to help out the less fortunate children who live in the area, giving visitors even more reason to come check it out!

The Florida Powerboat Club heads to Key West here in episode 2 during the epic 26th annual Key West Poker Run. Over 200 boats make their way with great condition. Bikini Contests & Boating Competitions at the Emerald Coast Boat Week
It’s more than likely that we really don’t need to say anything else about this fun event, but knowledge is power, so why stop now? Registration for the Emerald Coast Poker Run costs $295 per entry and gets you access for two into all Boat Week events. For those who are seeking the ultimate in Boat Week experiences, you can upgrade to VIP for another $200. Your VIP experience includes free drinks and VIP seating for two at the Captain’s Party, VIP seating at the Bikini Contest, and reserved seating and free drinks at the “Big One” Poker Run Party (plus the bar stays open late for VIP members!). Remember, this event is for the kids, and if it means you have to have an even better time, isn’t it worth it?
Starting with a Blues, Brew, & BBQ party on Wednesday, August 7th, every day of the event features new fun and excitement. The aforementioned bikini competition, registration, and sponsor party is on Thursday. On Friday night registration opens again and the Rockin’ the Docks Captain’s Party is held. Saturday is when the real fun begins, though! The rules for the Poker Run (The Big One) are simple: travel by boat to the listed spots to get your poker cards (there are nine), and that evening from 6-11 PM, the game is on!
The Emerald Coast Poker Run Party takes place at the Emerald Coast Convention Center and the Grand Prize this year is a 2019 Harley Davidson Street Bob, but there will be other prizes offered as well. Finally, a silent auction, blackjack, and an all-you-can-eat buffet and open bar finishes out the weekly events, ensuring that once again, Boat Week will be a rousing success!
